Nextbook, based in West Covina, CA, produces some of the cheapest, most powerful tablets that can be converted to laptops on the market. One of their most popular product lines is the Nextbook Flexx, which is marketed by Walmart and varies in price by model, from $89 to $200. The Nextbook Flexx 9 was the first computer I purchased for under $100 and it was exciting for me. The beauty of the Nextbook Flexx 9 is that it comes with Windows 10. It also comes with a detachable keyboard so that it can be used as either a tablet or laptop.
This computer is quite powerful, though not as powerful as the brands selling for multiples of its price. For a child or for basic tasks, like surfing the internet and checking email, and running programs that aren’t too resource-intensive, it is at a good price-point. Because the computer is so affordable, and comes in various colors, such as black, blue and purple, it looks like a toy. However, it is definitely not a toy.
The Flexx comes with a USB port and a MicroSD slot for expanding the memory. The feel of the Flexx 9 keyboard isn’t too great, as the keys feel relatively stiff, but then again the keyboard is very small given that the device can be converted to a tablet.
The Flexx 9 — which is 8.9 inches wide — comes with Word, Excel and Powerpoint apps. It also comes with 32 GB of memory and uses an Intel Atom Z3735G quad-core processor.
The day when powerful computers sell for under $100 has finally arrived! As time goes on, these cheap tablets are only going to go lower in price and get more powerful. The potential for our society and world with these devices as they become more widely-used is enormous.
